The Ashfield Estate: Achieving Objectives – Progress to October 2024

In responding to Test Valley Borough Council‘s approach seeking land for development the key challenge facing The Ashfield Estate was whether faithful delivery of its vision could be secured. Commissioning architects to masterplan and design is one thing, but it’s equally important to know that everything is practical, meets the regulations, and is buildable.

House builders have those skills, they also know what attracts buyers and works for affordable housing providers. To safeguard the vision, it made sense to work with house builders from the beginning.

In 2009 The Ashfield Estate selected C G Fry and Son, Morrish Homes, Wyatt Homes to join it in a partnership approach to help shape and deliver its development schemes at North Baddesley and Romsey.

These photographs taken in September 2024 by David Loftus show how the first phases by Fry and Wyatt measure up and conform to the original vision for Mountbatten Park.

Place making and the design of houses to make streets is only part of that vision. There are other important elements set out in the Design and Community Code, and in the Luzborough Plantation document, which can be found on this website.
